What kind of Banjo

I am a Rock guitarist gently sliding into "BlueGrass" and I want to buy a banjo. I know my guitars inside and out but banjos seem to be a different beast. I play a Les Paul Custom guitar, but I want a players banjo that is not too high priced. In other words I don't want to pay for another Les Paul when I buy my Banjo. I would also like some tips on "learin" the banjo. I can't play the banjo yet, but it can't be that much different than the guitar can it ??? Any help would be appreciated.
