I believe that this debate is one of the greatest in music. My personal opinion is that the Jenkins String Band, with Snuffy Jenkins, in the early 30's had the same sound as the Bluegrass Boys at the time when Bill was with his brother. This was the first time bluegrass banjo drive was broadcast on the radio in Columbia, SC. Also, the Morris Brothers (first employer of Earl) was playing "Salty Dog" in the bluegrass style while Bill was with his brother. I believe it would be correct to say that Monroe was the catalyst that brought the best together to become the seminal bluegrass band.
