They most certainly did do a concert at Vanderbilt and made a live record. Columbia recording, probably. Anyway, I remember it well, and had the record back then.
During that time they toured and played many college scenes. Very popular at colleges. I saw them in New Orleans at Loyola University of the South, and many attended from Loyola AND Tulane University, right next door. You might say Lester and Earl took Blue Grass Music "uptown." They also played Carnegie Hall and made a live recording there.
