Hi! Congratulations Earl!
I,m from Canada, Since, I, can`t make it down to the ceremony, I`ll for sure be "thinking of it! and picturing it!"in my mind!" ( this "great wonderful musical historical event", & "all in my heart!", and hope to see the news of this Great Event! on t.v.at some point.
After only playing the 5 string a few months now (4), and after 41 yrs of guitars, I`m catching on real fast and easy. both from your books & cassete Earl Scruggs & The 5 String Banjo & by ear.Which comes easy for me, the transpiration from musical instrument to another instrument.(strings)etc. eg. guitar to banjo.is coming to me like in a tremendously wildfire manner.have prev played tenor banjo way back some 25 yrs or so.I, guess this has helped me out quite a bit.in many respects.
A very much loved favorite of yours is Home Sweet Home & Cripple Creek.
I, can play very well, just with my fingernails trimmed just right (shorter)to a light pointiness) with a gentle curve (on the left side of the nail)on thumb, middle & index fingers, also ring finger & the pinky, however, just using for right now the thumb, middle & index mostly for my playing.I,rarely use thumb or finger picks & can feel out the sound quite well with just natural nails as my picks.and also project the sound Accent strings to louder & softer as well."Unbelievable",so I`m told without using Plastic or metal finger picks.Kind of feel out the instrument.& same with the guitar, I`ll use the same picking manner as well.
Can also do the tuners in Home Sweet Home some to without any presets, although this is pretty difficult to do this way, without presets tuners.& my tuners are mounted like a guitars the other Positioning planetary direction.Gold Tone CC100R.Bluegrass Banjo. I`ll pick up the 5 string in the Music Stores to do this sometimes, just for the fun of it! though, Great fun, & entertaining anyways!
Thank You! Earl, and keep up the Great Picking!
and Congratulations! on THE HOLLYWOOD WALK OF FAME
from Canada, Ken
