I had bought a new Earl Scruggs standard model in Oct of 94 from Granite quarry North Carolina. I used it for a week, and it had such lousy tone, and the nickle plating was terrible, pitted in spots etc. Sounded like about a 200 dollar korean banjo. I sent it back and a new one was shipped to me. Sounded better but was not set up properly and buzzed and rattled, and on the resonator even the wood and lacquer cracked. I suffered with it for 4 years. I then just cased it. I Sold it in 2000 just to get rid of it. It was the worst banjo I have ever owned. I have played a gibson RB-4 for the past 4 years. Great banjo. excellent in every way. What a difference.
