I'm thinking on songs like "you are my flower," played by scruggs. a picture of him playing (but a stupid mic is in the way) in below. I think he uses thumb for meldody, and index for strumming. the middle finger comes into play when he does some actual fingerpicking. for all these carter-type songs that i'm interested in, they're always played in a C hold. "you are my flower" is played in a C hold with a capo on the 7th fret, making it the key of G. i captured this image from his concert at www.hob.com. anyone know the precise mechanics of earl's style of play?
